Just south (across the street) of the Ice House Lofts, you’ll find these unique, single family residences called the Barrio Metalico Lofts. One of my favorite features of Barrio Metalico Lofts is that they have two bedrooms. One is the floating bedroom above and the other is a private bedroom downstairs. I also like the fact that each of these lofts has its own yard and carport.
The Barrio Metalico lofts have a lot of green features as well. They are TEP certified homes. They each have a water harvesting system, R-48 insulation and exceed the required energy code by at least 25%. The vehicle entry gates to the lofts use a solar panel (see photo below) and each loft is plumbed for solar hot water heating. The wood fencing around the lofts was reused from the Ice House Lofts project.
Inside, the lofts are bright and open with fifteen foot high ceilings and calculated window placements. Stained concrete floors, modern kitchens and steel stairways mix together to create a very warm, comfortable space.
